Nathan “Nate” Drake and his partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan go on a dangerous journey in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception to find the legendary Atlantis of the Sands, also known as Iram of the Pillars, a lost city mentioned in ancient texts. The adventure starts in London with a staged fight between Nate and a mysterious buyer named Katherine Marlowe, who takes Nate’s ring and appears to kill him and Sully. Flashbacks show Nate as a kid meeting Sully for the first time in a Colombian museum, where he steals Sir Francis Drake’s ring. This sets up their mentor-mentee relationship. Nate, Sully, and friends like Chloe Frazer and Charlie Cutter are back together in the present. They follow clues from a hidden library, such as T.E. Lawrence’s notebook and a map of Francis Drake’s voyage, to Crusader crypts in a French chateau and a Syrian citadel. The group puts together amulets and finds their way through France, Syria, Yemen, and the dangerous Rub’ al Khali desert, where they face pirates, convoys, and supernatural forces connected to the city’s cursed past. They do this while being ambushed, betrayed, and threatened with hallucinations by Marlowe’s ancient order.

As the journey gets more intense, Nate meets his estranged wife, Elena Fisher, in Yemen. There, they find proof of Drake’s abandoned quest in an underground tomb. As betrayals increase, they lead to captures, plane hijackings, and desert hallucinations. Finally, Salim leads a rescue mission that reveals the city’s doom by King Solomon’s sealing of evil Djinn in a brass vessel. In the middle of Iram, Nate’s will is tested by hallucinogenic waters and possessed enemies. This leads to a climactic collapse as he and Sully face Marlowe and her partner Talbot, racing against sinking sands and quicksand pits to save their lives and artifacts. The story takes place in many different parts of the world and includes high-stakes action, historical mysteries, personal relationships, and supernatural lore.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is a third-person action-adventure platformer where players control Nathan Drake and the game has a lot of animations that make him react to what’s going on around him. Drake does acrobatic things like jumping, running, climbing, swimming, and climbing ledges. He also has more ways to get around and more gunplay. Players can carry up to two guns and four grenades, and they can get weapons and ammo from enemies. You can use Drake’s journal to help you solve puzzles, and there is also an optional hint system. New features include easier and better stealth mechanics that let you take down enemies without being seen by sneaking up on them or dropping from ledges. There are also more ways to fight enemies, such as hand-to-hand combat, contextual melee, and fights with multiple enemies.
